Aerobatic Contest a Great Success!

July 22nd, 2008

EFA at Springfield, VTThe Executive Flyers aerobatic crew had a great time at the recent competition in Springfield, VT.  The event, hosted by Chapter 35 of the International Aerobatic Club, was well organized, and the weather was perfect for the entire four days.  Thanks to the great advanced planning, and clear weather, all catagories we able to fly three flights.

We were well represented at the contest by five EFA trained aerobatic pilots: Jim Kourian, John Perkins, Dr. Chuck Cohen, David Shaver, and Byron Brumbaugh.

For Jim, John, and Dr. Cohen, this was their first opportunity to fly in an actual competition.  After shaking off their “first time” jitters, all three were able to improve their scores on their second and third flights.  Jim Kourian placed third on one of his flights and came home with a flight medal.

David Shaver did well flying the EFA Extra in the Sportsman catagory, while Byron Brumbaugh flew the new EFA Decathlon.  EFA Chief Instructor, Marc Nathanson, competed in his Pitts S1-T, and came in third on his second flight of the competition.

Part of the EFA aerobatics program is to support our pilots through their first competitions.  EFA instructor, Steve Till, flew backseat with his students Jim and John, while Marc flew with Dr. Cohen in his Extra.  By having the the instructor fly with the students, we are able to help them learn how to “fly in the box”, and give them real time support to improve their flying (and to help them with their “jitters”!).

A special thanks is also in order for the members of the EFA family who made the trip to Springfield to support our pilots.  It was a great weekend, and we look forward to more competitions in the future.
