Certified Flight Instructor Program

EFA has developed a unique CFI training course intended to further our philosophy of focusing on quality as well as required content. We train CFI applicants to the high standards we demand of the instructors we hire to become EFA employees.

The ground school portion of the training has been assigned to Jake Kasprzyk, an experienced senior CFI on our staff, who can draw on his experience in training pilots from private through CFI and multi, and bring his own unique dynamics to the class. This will not be an exercise in checking off the squares on the training record!

Ground School Group Sessions

Our intent is to tailor the class to the individual needs of the participants, with flexibility in class schedules and make-up provisions. In the event that an individual cannot attend all classes, we will also permit attendance with future classes at no charge.

• This course meets FAR Part 141 requirements of 40 hours ground school, using the Jeppesen curriculum. Part 141 further requires 25 hours flight. Cost of required flight time is not included in the ground school pricing.

• Provisions are available to complete under Part 61 without meeting all the hours requirements of Part 141.

• Starting date will be in late February or March. Next session in late Spring.

• Classes will be held two to three nights per week: approximately 2 1/2 hours per class.

• Classes will start at 6:00pm at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Ma.

• Price is $950 per student, non-refundable. (Ground School only)

• There will be 32 hours of classroom delivered over 15 sessions.

• An additional 4 hours will be required, one-on-one with a CFI, covering lessons 25 (Pilot Briefing – FOI) and 26 (Oral Briefing and Stage II Exam). The cost for this is not included in the ground school.

• Lessons 27 and 28, Final Exams (“FOI” and “Flight Instructor Airplane”) will be accomplished at home.

• Participants will be required to purchase a Jeppesen Deluxe Kit (which covers CFIA, CFII, and MEI) priced at $293.95, and a copy of Gregory N. Brown’s “The Savvy Flight Instructor”, priced at $19.95. The kit consists of CFI textbook, syllabus, record folder, PTS (CFI, CFII,& MEI), exam package, Private, Instrument and Commercial syllabus and maneuvers manual, FAR/AIM, instructor’s guide and a kit bag.

• Course graduation certificates and logbook endorsements will be issued to students completing the course.

• The flight portion of the rating course will include training to a high proficiency level in the required maneuvers using our PA28R Arrow, and approximately one hour of training in EFA’s 8KCAB Super Decathlon for the required spin endorsement – plus additional insight into spins from various conditions. Enjoy – and learn from this!

• EFA will offer this course regularly, targeted at three to four times each year, more or less as interest warrants.

Contact Ed Keins if you wish to enroll or have any questions. We plan to follow this up with repeat classes, perhaps once every quarter, and to offer CFII and MEI courses as well. The Jeppesen kit covers all three.
