New Formation Flying Course!

formation11.JPGExecutive Flyers is proud to announce the start of a one-of-a-kind training opportunity for those pilots interested in Formation Flying.  This course has been custom designed by EFA Chief of Flight Operations, Marc Nathanson, to offer a unique opportunity to fly our aerobatic aircraft in formation.

The training and course content are based on military style training of tactical formation, and are in accordance with the T-34 Association rules.  You will learn the same disciplines, methods, and safety aspects as military pilots.  This will not only include formation, but those disciplines that are analogous to formation, such as proper clearing, aircraft control without relying on the instruments, Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) for multi-aircraft formations, and Crew Resource Management (CRM).  This program is designed to make you an all-around safer pilot, as well as a safe formation pilot.  Plus, this program is lots of fun!

formation.JPGCourse #1 – This course consists of basic formation and trail aerobatics.  Maneuvers include: formation takeoff, pitch-outs and rejoins, wing Chandelles and Lazy 8’s, cross-unders, and formation overhead approaches.  Also, close and route formations.  You will lean to fly in both the lead and the wing positions.

Course #2 – In this course, you will learn how to fly Tactical Formation, to include, Tactical Low Level flight as both the lead and the wing.  Tactical course changes and weaves will be flown, as well as break outs and rejoins.

Other advanced tactical courses are planned, and will be implemented based on the number of pilots interested in continuing to a higher level of tactical formation.

By following the T-34 Association rules, we will also be seeking certification as a sanctioned formation training school to certify those who wish to fly formation at such events as the EAA Airshow at Oshkosh.

This course will be offered from our Lawrence Facility, and students will fly our two Super Decathlons.  There may be an opportunity to use your own aircraft for this program if it meets the standards and requirements.
