CFI Job Inquiry

Certificated Flight Instructor Positions

Background

Executive Flyers Aviation (EFA) employs some sixteen to eighteen full time CFIs, and have more than thirty aircraft on the flight line. These aircraft include seven Cessna 152s, five “classic” and nine new Skyhawks (two with a G1000 glass cockpit), six new Skylanes (two with G1000), a Warrior, an Arrow, a Seminole, a Cirrus SR20 and a Super Decathlon. Our CFIs often log eighty hours or more per month (some will hit forty hours in a single week), and frequently become Part 141 Check Instructors within six months. Typically, CFIs move right into Private, Commercial and Instrument instruction, along with aircraft checkouts, BFRs, IPCs, and pilot hire opportunities. Occasionally, we may hire CFIs specifically for our Aerobatics or Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA) courses. Beyond that, we have a close affiliation (bridge program) with a growing Part 135 airline operating Caravans and (soon) very light jets, and a good reputation in the air carrier and corporate world. While we actively encourage CFIs to make flight instruction their career, our CFIs have successfully applied to and been hired by companies such as Linear Air, Cape Air, Alpha Flying, American Eagle, US Airways Express, Commutair, Ram Air Freight, Airnet and others. In short, EFA can provide a very attractive employment opportunity for a flight instructor.

Candidates with CFI and CFII

We are quite selective in our interview and hiring process, and feel that we have every right to ask our CFIs to adhere to high standards of ethics and professionalism. Normally we expect CFIs to have their instrument instructor certificate before being hired*, and to plan on working six-day weeks, including weekends and holidays when most of our customers want to schedule their training.  We look for outgoing personalities and expect an instructor to perform as an educator and a customer service professional as well as a knowledgeable, safety-conscious pilot.  Our CFIs adhere to dress and grooming standards, and project an image reflecting EFA’s values at all times.

If this is what you are seeking, and you are willing and able to operate in the structured environment we work in, then we would welcome your application.  Send us your resume and be patient. We will acknowledge receipt right away, but may not get back to you until we screen candidates for a specific hiring need and training class (every one or two months). The top candidates will then be asked to come in for a personal interview. This can become a significant issue if you are not residing locally; let us know if the interview will require special planning. Finally, be aware of the cost of living and commuting issues associated with the Boston area before responding; financial matters can become a show stopper if not properly anticipated. EFA adheres to a published pay scale, commensurate with industry averages, with established rates for new, mid-term and high time instructors. We will be happy to discuss this pay structure with candidates.

Specialist Aerobatics/Tailwheel CFIs

EFA has an occasional need for CFIs to specialize in Aerobatic/Tailwheel instruction. This position does not necessarily involve full time availability, and we particularly welcome applicants with the enthusiasm and personality to make aerobatics the extraordinary experience that it is. In addition to the requriements listed above, the ideal candidate for this position would be competent in Sportsman level aerobatics, having competed in a Decathlon at the Sportsman level, though – depending on the circumstances – candidates with different experience levels will be considered.

Garmin G 1000 and Cirrus/Avidyne Specialist CFIIs

EFA is seeking CFIs to expand our TAA (Technically Advanced Aircraft) training. Applicants will preferably have significant instrument instructing experience, and be available for both regular instruction and pilot hire. This position will not necessarily involve full time availability, but will require scheduling flexibility to serve customer requests for accelerated transition courses involving (usually) ten to twenty hours flight and ground. We use scenario-based “FITS” (FAA-Industry Training Standard) type training for the transition courses. EFA will train the right applicants for these positions; applicants must be willing to assure us of long-term availability after training.

*NOTE: Candidates lacking CFI or CFII

EFA is always on the lookout for outstanding candidates with exceptional potential who are willing to train at and grow with the company. If you feel you meet the general criteria outlined above, but are lacking the CFI or CFII certificates, we may still want to speak with you. For example:

1: If you have your CFI, but have yet to obtain your CFII, you may be hired and integrated into EFA’s instructing schedule, or accepted into our CFI training program, depending on the company’s needs. Candidates will need to agree to the following two conditions:

a. Start CFII training with EFA within thirty days of the date of employment. The CFI will be billed for aircraft and instructor charges at employee rates.

b. Complete the FAA knowledge test (CFII written) within fortyfive days of hire, and the certificate within sixty days.

2: If you have neither your CFI nor CFII, under exeptional circumstances we may wish to interview you for our CFI training program. Candidates accepted into this program will participate in the growth of the company through a variety of tasks, from aircraft ferrying, to Line Service and Customer Service, as the needs of the company dictate. In return, candidates in this scheme will be entitled to guaranteed CFI interview when they obtain their CFI, discounts on aircraft rental and flight instruction, as well as free use of our Training Device.

In Conclusion

Executive Flyers Aviation is an equal opportunity employer, and will consider any applicant holding the proper FAA certificates. If you are a citizen of a foreign country, you must have a green card or work visa before we can consider your application; we are not in a position to participate in this process.

To apply, you can either email your resume to cfijobs@executiveflyers.com, or mail it to our address, or drop-off personally.  Include a cover letter if appropriate.  We will acknowledge receipt, and will contact you if you meet our hiring criteria and we are beginning our next round of hiring.

We will look forward to receiving your resume if you believe that employment at Executive Flyers Aviation is for you.
