About the G1000:

The revolutionary G1000 glass cockpit - the most intelligent flight-deck package ever to fly on this class of aircraft. The G1000 integrates all primary flight, engine and sensor data to provide intuitive, at-a-glance situational awareness. Real-time, flight-critical information is presented on two big, colorful 10.4-inch active-matrix LCD displays - bringing new levels of safety and confidence in your Skyhawk (C-172S) or Skylane (C-182S).  The G1000 creates the irresistible combination of the future of flight with the world's most-embraced, most-flown aircraft ever. The databases in each aircraft are updated monthly to ensure up-to-date vital information.

How to get started:

EFA has a dedicated G1000 simulator which is an invaluable tool for you to complete the ground training of your checkout. This simulator is available for dual ground training and for “solo” practice. Solo practice on the simulator is allowed once you have been approved by a CFI or during the checkout process. Solo simulator time is at no charge, but please schedule time in advance to ensure availability.

What a G1000 checkout entails:

For VFR flying:

  1. Understanding the aircraft and avionics systems.
  2. Review the differences between G1000 aircraft and standard avionics aircraft.
  3. Ground training:
    • Elements of the G1000 system
    • PFD and MFD menus, functions and operations
    • Radios and audio panels
    • System failures and backups
  4. Flight training:
    • One flight to perform maneuvers, G1000 operations and navigation.
    • One flight to demonstrate understanding and use of G1000 functions with limited CFI intervention.

For IFR flying:

  1. All of the above points
  2. Flight Training:
    • One flight to perform basic instrument rating maneuvers (stalls, steep turns, unusual attitude recoveries), approaches, holding and reversionary and failure modes.
    • One flight to demonstrate IFR operations and approaches.

Group Clinics

If you are not yet ready to commit to a full G1000 checkout, EFA is offering low-cost Saturday clinics to cover items 1 through 3 on the G1000 Checkout list above (everything but the actual flying). The clinic will also bring you to a level of functional understanding and approval for solo use of the G1000 simulator (which is FREE!).

Clinics are only $35 and are approximately 2.5 hours in duration. To sign up, please call and speak with one of our dispatchers. A maximum of 4 pilots per clinic.

Call us to find out when the next clinic is scheduled.

After the clinic, if you wish to continue the complete checkout, we will schedule flying time for you with a CFI at your convenience.

If you cannot make a clinic, please feel free to schedule your individual checkout time with a CFI or a dispatcher.
