At times, the sound of the rain falling on the hangar roof was intimidating. We were concerned that no one would be able to fly in for the barbecue. We even wondered where to set up the grill as the wind was coming across runway 32 right to our hangar door.
Thank goodness for instrument ratings! One of our clients flew in from Bedford with a friend. They taxied right up to our private ramp raving about N6229Q’s integrated autopilot.
We gave all of our barbecue-goers a tour of the facility. Some got to sit in the cockpit of our loaded Extra 300L. We geeked out at some of the sophisticated owner aircraft we store. We also got a good look at the new engine our maintenance technicians are installing into N1154G this week.
Another tour highlight was Michael Goulian’s private office replete with awards, airshow memorabilia and furniture made of repurposed aircraft parts. Our lounge offered a cozy place to escape the weather until we fired up the grill just inside the hangar.
We enjoyed some hotdogs and swapped stories while the driving rain became a drizzle. We couldn’t help but notice how much quieter Lawrence is than Bedford. We were having so much fun talking, we didn’t even notice that we had missed the official end-time of the event.
Thank you to everyone who came! We had a wonderful day and we look forward to our next get-together!
